Today is the day we remember those that fell on behalf of freedom. Throughout the course of our nation's history, people have sacrificed so that we could enjoy the freedoms we now take for granted. Of those, some gave all. Today we honor them. Thank you is not enough but it is all we have to give. So today, honor the fallen and injured. And remember those that are in harm's way currently. Freedom is not free and others paid and are paying our share of the bill.
Side note: One of my first squad leaders had come to our unit from the Old Guard, the Army's Honor Guard unit in Washington D.C. Specifically, he was a Sergeant of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Let me say that SSG L took this role very seriously and with great solemnity. He eagerly awaited the day when he could return to his post. Our fallen could not ask for better caretakers than SSG L and the men of the 3rd Infantry, the Old Guard.
