The Opinionator just returned from the funeral of a remarkable woman, the grandmother of Mrs. Opinionator. It was held in what turned out to be enemy held territory, the suburbs of Philadelphia. Most of the attendees were from Philly, Manhattan and Los Angeles. Let me tell you, the bitterness and anger of the last two Presidential elections is not confined to the pages of "Screw Them" Kos and his fellow travelers. I learned what the Left really means when they say,  "I support the troops." It was revealed to me what these people think of the people serving in the military, (one step above "baby-killer"), and what they think of the military itself. Let's just say that "screw them" is not just reserved for contractors killed in Iraq.  I discovered a Leftist that would not read MilBlogs because she does not believe anything a GI would write from Iraq but considers Robert Fisk to be a credible source. The Opinionator was forced to do an in-person "Fisking! I experienced the lack of simple decency accorded those that are not part of the "I hate Bush" cabal. I was awash in the Bush and Republican hatred that Dean's democrats have for anyone who does not share their views.

I am too damn tired from the drive back to Raleigh to go on, but here is an example: Best friend of the woman who lost her mother leaves the after-reception to watch the indictment of Scooter Libby. Upon returning, friend launches into tirade against Bush, Cheney, Rove and gets into the face of Mrs Opinionator, who just buried her grandmother, to attack her for voting for Bush. It only gets worse.

And the Number One Reason You Can Tell The Iraqi Elections Were a Success....

....They were virtually ignored by the mainstream press. All weekend, it has been a challenge to find any reporting on the Iraqi elections. Instead, we have been bombarded by reports of the "unrest" in Toledo. You can bet your ass that if there had been bloody attacks that suppressed turnout or if the turnout had been low for disinterest, it would have been repeated ad nauseum in the media. Even outlets like AP have had to search to find things to nit pick about the election. Certainly adds more veracity to the saying, "If  it bleeds it reads."

The Iraqi people have taken yet another step on the way to a lasting freedom despite the terror, violence and intimidation of thugs and terrorists that oppose freedom, oppose progress, and oppose woman's rights. Yet it is these very savages that the media, the Left and the dimwitted in Hollywood would try to convince us are George Washington, Simon Bolivar and Ho Chi Minh rolled into one. Yeah, right.

Iraqi's Hand the Terrorists and Their Friends in the Media Another Major Defeat

Despite the best efforts of the various terrorist groups and their staunch supporters in the media and "anti-war" movements, the Iraqi's took yet another step forward in their progress towards becoming a Constitutional Democracy by voting in large numbers. Various news reports have said that turnout was down while pointing out that the percentage of voters may have actually risen over the January elections. How they reconcile those two things, I have no clue. But one thing is certain, the Iraqi people, regardless of how the vote turns out, have scored yet another major victory in their own war on terror. Congratulations.

This is all they've Got?

Tomorrow the Iraqi people will be voting for or against their new Constitution. The response from the terrorists has been to sabotage the power grid leading to a blackout in Baghdad. Given the violence leading up to this election I am certain that they have more up their sleeve. However, if all they have on the eve of the election is a power outage and a bombing of a Sunni political party office for supporting the new constitution, that is pretty weak stuff.

I have watched the media reports leading up to this vote and noted that every news organization, including Fox News, has gone out of their way to note every single potential issue with the constitution and why it might/will/should be rejected. This despite the Sunni's coming around to support the document in large numbers. You can almost see them licking their chops in anticipation of the mass deaths caused by the terrorists on election day and a rejection of the constitution. They seem to think it would be a huge blow to the Bush administration and our efforts in Iraq. Guess what, we are fighting for their freedom. That includes the freedom to do things we wish they would not. It is their decision wqhether or not to ratify the Constitution, not us. No matter how the vote turns out, the Iraqi's have won just by having it. And the terrorists will once again find themselves being submerged by the wave of freedom. People want to be free. They want the best for themselves, their families and communities. The terrorists offer nothing but repression, pain and hopelessness. And despite the desires of many around the world, they will eventually lose for that very reason. Hope and freedom will triumph in the end.

The "Religion of Peace" Strikes Again

Once again followers of the "Religion of Peace" have taken it upon themselves to bomb and murder innocents as part of their "Join us or die," recruitment campaign. For the second time Bali is their target and there are at least 25 dead and 110 injured for the sin of not being followers of the "Religion of Peace."

Bali was a peaceful place before the 2002 bombings  and is a target because it is largely Hindu and, to be honest, people are there having a good time. How miserable must a person be that they need to blow up  innocents? How lame must your religion be if you need to terrorize people into following it?  Maybe if these idiots went to the beach, had a drink and got laid some of this bitterness would fade away. Maybe the War on Terror should be conducted by sex industry workers conquering Al Qaeda members one at a time with blow jobs and martinis. While we are on that track, maybe if somebody would buy Cindy Sheehan a vibrator she would have something better to do with her time rather than saying stupid things and serving as an Al Qaeda propaganda tool.

Seriously though, when are we going to hear from members of the "Religion of Peace" condemning this attack loudly and without reservation? If the extremists are but a small minority, then it ought to be easy enough to purge those elements from the faith. Unfortunately, too many members agree with them. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that all Muslims are terrorists. I am not even saying that a substantial number are terrorists. However, I am saying that a substantial number, if not a large majority, of terrorists around the world are Muslims. It is past time for non-radicalized Muslims to step up to the plate and do something about it. If they continue to turn a blind eye to the murderers in their midst, they lose the standing to complain about their faith being marginalized.
