Congratulations to Shani Davis, the Gold Medalist in the Olympic 1,000 Meter Speed Skating race. He is the first African-American to win an individual Gold Medal in the Winter Olympics. Good job!
One note, Davis has evidently has felt slighted by a lack of marketing opportunities and attributes it to being black. Perhaps that is the case. But looking like a jerk during a prickly post-race interview with the NBC reporter immediately following his win in front of a national audience is not going to help him line up commercial sponsors. Davis is a great story that many would like to identify with but he really blew a golden, (pun intended), opportunity to connect with Americans and potential sponsors.
