...IS still cut and run. Per this story, (via Drudge), it seems our friends in the democrat party are beginning to come together on a "strategic redeployment" strategy for our troops in Iraq. In other words, they are putting lipstick on the pig named "cut and run." They would put the troops elsewhere in the region where they would swoop in to save the day in an emergency. Where they would station them is not entirely clear. In fact, there are not many details period. Here is Senator Jack Reed's defense of this nonsense,
'It's important to note that it's not withdrawal -- it's redeployment," Reed said. ''We need to pursue a strategy that is going to accomplish the reasonable objectives, and allow us to have strategic flexibility. Not only is it a message, but it's a method to improve the security there and around the globe."
Un huh. Sure it isn't a withdrawal. I am sure that is exactly how our enemies will see it; as a strategic redeployment. I am sure they will not howl about our defeat in Iraq and how they outlasted us once again. I am sure they will not use it as an object lesson that we can be defeated simply by appealing to our ADD-afflicted population. I am sure they will not use it as a recruiting tool. NOT! As Michael O'Hanlon of Princeton University says,
'Any plan that envisions complete American withdrawal in such a period of time is still a prescription for strategic defeat."
No shit! Does anyone in that party other than Joe Lieberman understand the ramifications of surrendering; yes, I said surrendering, in Iraq? Do they not get the long-term ramifications of quitting before the job is done? Just because you disagree with us being there and hate the President does not mean that you can responsibly put aside the strategic consequences of defeat. And defeat is what they are proposing. Snatching it right out of the jaws of victory. As far as forces in Kuwait or somewhere else in the region, does anyone really think they are close enough to assist when needed? And does anyone really think they will actually be used once they are all gone from Iraq? Ask the South Vietnamese what they think. This plan is a loser all around.
If a rehash of "Mad Murtha's" surrender plans are all they have, we need to keep the keys to the Pentagon out of their hands. What has happened to the party of FDR and Truman?
