As I will be out of town on business on election day, today I took advantage of the Early Voting we have in North Carolina. I voted pretty much party line. I do not agree with all the Republican candidates on everything, I have disagreements with them on some issues. But on balance they were a better choice than their opponents. Unfortunately, I also live in a safe seat for the incumbent liberal Defeatocrat so there is no hope on that end. Some of you, though I suspect not nearly as many as the MSM would have us believe, want to stay home and punish Republicans. You have an issue or issues that you feel that the Republicans have not addressed to your satisfaction? Fine, fair enough. But what will you get if the Defeatocrats take over Congress? Will it be better than the Republicans? Sure, the Repubs could do a better job but take a look at some of the hot button issues and ask yourself this question: While Republicans have not done as much on (Fill in your issue) as you would like, will the Donks do a better or worse job addressing it? Realistically, that is the choice. By staying home, you are saying that Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid and their respective caucus will do a better job. Take a look at some of these issues:
Iraq/War on Terror: Will cutting and running in Iraq make us safer? Even if you do not agree that Iraq and the GWOT are one and the same, you can bet that if we follow the Defeatocrat plan and leave, we will create a vacuum that will lead to us being a lot less safer. In fact, it would give hope to the Taliban hold-outs in Afghanistan. They would know that if they only hang on long enough and inflict enough casualties, they will have two nations from which to base themselves and launch attacks against the west. Long story short, retreat in Iraq means emboldening terrorists and Islamists worldwide.
Immigration: Yes, we wanted a lot more action on immigration from the Republicans. Clearly they were timid as employers wanted cheap labor and they had fears of offending the Hispanic voting block which is rapidly catching up to the African-American vote. However, would the Defeatocrats have done more or less? Will they do more or less on this issue? We all know the answers to those questions especially given their embrace of illegal alien voters in places like California.
Taxes/Economy: Republicans cut taxes. Maybe not as much as we would have liked and certainly they should have made President Bush's tax cuts permanent by now. But the defeatocrats are upfront, they will raise taxes. They may try to dress it up but under Defeatocrats, the Bush tax cuts will be allowed to expire. They will also go after those with higher incomes and Capital Gains almost as soon as they come into power. Coming on the heels of interest rate increases and the housing slowdown, this is a recipe for recession.
Spending: Yes, the Republican congress has been guilty of way too much wasteful spending and several members have acted like Democrats in this manner. But do you really think the Democrats will be any better? already have a laundry list of thing that they want to spend our money on. Perhaps a few of you need to see a bunch of Democrats trying to buy their way back into a permanent majority to appreciate the Republicans. Unfortunately, by then it may be too late.
This is no time for symbolic votes. Even if the Republicans do not deserve our support, our troops do. They are there for you. It is time for you to be there for them. A vote for your local Defeatocrat Congressional candidate IS a vote for Speaker Pelosi, for defeat in Iraq, for more illegal immigration, for higher taxes and for even more spending. You know that is true and you know what to do about it; Get off your butts and get out to the polls!
