The first section of California's high-speed rail boondoggle will cost roughly $3-7B more than initially thought. Imagine that, it will cost more than initially thought! That is like saying the sun will rise in the East. In fact, we think that those that supported this "Train to Nowhere" knew it would cost more but low balled the estimates to make it more palatable politically. Only now that we are breaking ground do we find out that we are going to be paying a hell of a lot more. And I say we as the cost of this project is being subsidized by taxpayers int he other 49 states. Outside of a few corridors, high-speed rail makes zero sense except to satisfy those that think the USA needs to be more like Europe. We need to stick a wooden stake into the heart of the vampire known as high-speed rail and do so quickly. (H/T Hot Air)
